UICT students develop AI-Powered recruitment solution to transform hiring

Five UICT students have developed an innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered recruitment platform, AI-Recruiter, marking another significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to producing industry-ready digital innovators. AI-Recruiter is an intelligent recruitment platform designed to streamline and modernise the hiring process. Using advanced artificial intelligence, the system analyses applicants’ résumés, generates customised interview questions based on specific job requirements, conducts intelligent virtual interviews, evaluates candidates’ communication skills, personality traits and overall job suitability, and produces comprehensive recruitment reports for employers.

The platform also ranks candidates according to employer-defined criteria, enabling organisations to make more objective, consistent and data-driven hiring decisions while significantly reducing the time required for initial candidate screening.

The student team behind the AI-Recruiter comprises Wabwire Elijah Trent, Jupatho Claus, Nasozi Jazirah, Baluku Andrew and Kakete Kenneth, whose collaborative effort demonstrates the innovation, technical expertise and problem-solving skills being nurtured at UICT.

The solution was developed under the UICT–Akademia Internship Programme, which commenced in July 2026. The programme provides students with hands-on industry experience through collaboration with Akademia, a leading higher education institution in Poland, enabling participants to work on practical technology solutions that address real-world challenges.

The development comes at a time when organisations around the world are increasingly embracing AI to improve recruitment outcomes. Industry research shows that AI-powered recruitment tools can significantly reduce the time spent screening applications, improve candidate-job matching, automate repetitive recruitment tasks and enhance the overall candidate experience. When implemented responsibly alongside human oversight, AI also has the potential to support more consistent and evidence-based hiring decisions.

By automating the initial stages of recruitment, AI-Recruiter enables candidates to complete interviews anytime and from anywhere, improving accessibility while reducing recruitment costs and administrative workload for employers. The platform is designed to support organisations handling high volumes of applications, making talent acquisition faster, more scalable and more efficient for businesses in Uganda and across the global job market.

As AI adoption in human resource management continues to grow, experts also emphasise the importance of maintaining transparency, fairness and human oversight throughout the recruitment process to minimise bias and ensure ethical hiring practices. AI-Recruiter has been developed with the objective of supporting recruiters by providing data-driven insights rather than replacing human decision-making.

The successful development of AI-Recruiter reflects UICT’s growing role in advancing digital innovation and strengthening Uganda’s digital economy. It also demonstrates the value of strategic international partnerships in equipping students with practical skills that directly address industry needs and prepare them for the future of work.

This achievement underscores UICT’s commitment to nurturing innovators capable of developing practical, technology-driven solutions with meaningful social and economic impact.
