Programme Overview

Welcome to the National Certificate in Business and Management Studies page at UICT. This program is designed for individuals who want to gain foundational knowledge and skills in business and management principles, preparing them for various roles in the business world.

The National Certificate in Business and Management Studies (NC-BMS) is a comprehensive program designed to introduce students to the core areas of business and management. The curriculum covers essential business concepts such as marketing, finance, human resources, operations, and organizational behavior. Students will learn both theoretical and practical aspects of business management, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute to business operations and management in a variety of sectors.

Minimum Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the National Certificate in Business and Management Studies, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Academic Requirements:

  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 3 credit passes.
  • Preferred subjects include English, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, and any other relevant subjects related to business.

Additional Requirements:

  • A strong interest in business and management.
  • Basic understanding of business operations is an added advantage but not mandatory.

Program Duration
  • Study Duration: Two years (4 semesters).
  • The program combines both classroom learning and practical assignments, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience in managing business operations.

Tuition Fees

Tuition Fees per Semester:

  • UGX 350,000/- per semester.

Administrative Charges:

  • UGX 537,000/- for administrative charges, payable annually.

The National Certificate in Business and Management Studies covers a range of subjects, including:

  1. Introduction to Business and Management

    • Overview of business types, functions, and management.
    • Roles and responsibilities of managers in organizations.
  2. Business Communication

    • Effective communication in a business context.
    • Writing business reports, emails, and presentations.
  3. Marketing Principles

    • Basic marketing concepts such as market research, product development, pricing, promotion, and distribution.
    • Strategies for reaching target markets.
  4. Financial Management

    • Fundamentals of financial accounting and budgeting.
    • Managing business finances, preparing financial statements, and analyzing financial performance.
  5. Human Resource Management

    • Principles of recruitment, employee relations, and performance management.
    • Managing employee welfare and development.
  6. Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility

    • Ethical considerations in business decisions.
    • The role of businesses in contributing to the community and the environment.
  7. Entrepreneurship and Business Start-ups

    • Basic principles of entrepreneurship and starting a business.
    • Identifying business opportunities and creating a business plan.
  8. Operations Management

    • Managing business operations, supply chains, and production processes.
    • Process optimization, quality control, and inventory management.
  9. Practical Skills and Project Work

    • Hands-on training through internships or business-related projects.
    • Real-world application of business and management theories.

Graduates of the National Certificate in Business and Management Studies will be prepared for a range of entry-level positions in business and management, including:

  • Business Assistant – Assisting with various business tasks such as administration, finance, and operations.
  • Sales Representative – Handling sales, marketing, and customer relations.
  • Human Resources Assistant – Supporting HR activities such as recruitment, employee relations, and training.
  • Operations Assistant – Assisting in the management of business operations and logistics.
  • Entrepreneur – Starting and managing their own small business.
  • Financial Assistant – Assisting in accounting and financial management roles.

Graduates can also pursue further studies in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or Human Resource Management.


Application Process

The application process for the National Certificate in Business and Management Studies follows the same procedure as other programs at UICT:

  1. Sign Up: Visit the UICT Admissions Portal, create an account, and log in.
  2. Fill Application Form: Complete the online application form and upload the necessary academic documents.
  3. Make Payment: Pay the non-refundable application fee of UGX 30,000/- via mobile money or bank transfer.
  4. Submit Application: Once all details are completed, submit your application for review.
  5. Wait for Communication: Admission results will be communicated through email, SMS, and the UICT website.
