UICT hosts State Minister for ICT and National Guidance on familiarization visit
The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) on Friday 31st July 2026 welcomed the Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Alioni Yorke Odria, for an orientation and familiarization visit to the Institute’s Nakawa campus.
Accompanied by Dr Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, the Minister toured ongoing infrastructure projects, including renovations of the Administration Block, Library and Accounts Office. He also visited several of UICT’s state-of-the-art learning facilities, including the Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) Laboratory, Electronics and Electrical Laboratory and the Institute’s smart classrooms, where he witnessed firsthand how emerging technologies are transforming teaching and learning.
The visit concluded at the National ICT Innovation Hub, UICT’s incubation centre for technology and digital innovation, where discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in digital skills development, applied research and innovation to accelerate Uganda’s digital transformation.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Odria reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting innovation commercialization, urging the Institute to identify market-ready solutions that can create national impact.
“I encourage UICT Management to identify and present innovations that are ready for commercialization. The Ministry stands ready to provide the necessary support to help transform these innovations into impactful solutions that benefit our country,” Hon. Odria said.
The familiarization visit was attended by several dignitaries, including Eng. Dean Munene, Chairperson of the UICT Governing Council; Dr. Fredrick E. Kitoogo, Principal of UICT and Ms. Flavia Opio, Team Lead at the National ICT Innovation Hub, underscoring the shared commitment to advancing Uganda’s digital future through skills development, research and innovation.
