UICT Shines Bright at Uganda’s Premier Engineering Conference

The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) emerged as one of the biggest winners at the recently concluded 11th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week and 9th African Engineering Conference held at Speke Resort-Munyonyo. The conference, organized by Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE) aimed to highlight the importance of sustainable engineering solutions in tackling Africa’s development challenges. It was held under the theme: ‘Engineering for Sustainable Development in Africa: Addressing Climate Change and Building Resilient Infrastructure.’

UICT student innovators, Frank Muhindo and Lillian Lwanja, scooped the 2nd Runners-Up Award for their innovation, Temperature and Dust Monitoring System (TDMS). TDMS is an Artificial Intelligence powered Internet of Things solution designed to safeguard coffee quality in storage warehouses. By monitoring temperature, humidity and dust, TDMS helps ensure Uganda’s coffee retains its world-class standard from storage to market.

Also, UICT was honored with a Bronze Award, recognizing its outstanding role in ICT skilling & innovations development.
