Strengthening Partnerships: UICT Management Team Visits UPF National CCTV Command Centre

In today’s interconnected world, collaboration between institutions plays a crucial role in driving innovation and progress. The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) today paid a visit to the Uganda Police Force (UPF) National Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Command Centre-Naguru, signifying a step forward in fostering collaboration between the two institutions. The visit, aimed at revitalizing the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)working relationship between UICT and UPF, explored opportunities for mutual interest, particularly in capacity building, ICT integration, and consultancy support.

Led by Dr. Frederick E. Kitoogo, UICT’s Principal and accompanied by the Institute Secretary, Academic Registrar, Officer Planning, Head of Business Development Unit, and the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, the UICT delegation met the Director ICT, SCP Yusuf Sewanyana and Heads of Department from Operations, CCTV, NECC, KDJ and Multimedia at the Uganda Police Force National Command Centre-Naguru.

Exploring Mutual Interests

During the visit, discussions centered around areas of mutual interest, including capacity building in ICT, multimedia forensics, AVR integration, data science, AI, and consultancy support. Key personnel from both UICT and UPF engaged in fruitful dialogue, identifying potential collaboration opportunities that would benefit both institutions and the broader community. Furthermore, the discussions highlighted the potential of leveraging existing data for behavioral analysis, offering insights that can enhance the efficacy of current CCTV systems in crime prevention and inform strategic decision-making contributing to strengthening security of Uganda.

Empowering Through Capacity Building

Dr. Kitoogo emphasized the role of capacity building in driving digital transformation. He highlighted UICT’s commitment to supporting stakeholders in enhancing their ICT capacities, citing partnerships with organizations such as JICA and ITU. Dr. Kitoogo highlighted various areas where UICT could offer valuable expertise and support to UPF, including image processing training, data analytics, and machine learning.

Addressing Challenges Together

The leadership of UPF expressed their appreciation for the collaboration with UICT and identified key areas where joint efforts could address pressing challenges. They emphasized the importance of capacity building in areas such as information security and data analysis, recognizing the potential for collaboration to drive meaningful impact. This collaboration is in line with the government’s digital roadmap, signaling a strategic partnership aimed at driving national development through technology.
